Au Contraire, the new and exciting name in New Zealand science-fiction and fantasy fandom, welcomes you to this, our website.
Au Contraire organises SF&F conventions in New Zealand, hosts forums for fan discussion, and in all other ways seeks to promote organised fan creativity. It's the first ongoing con-running organisation in NZ; while SF&F cons have been held in NZ every year since 1979, before now they've all been run on an ad-hoc basis.
While the mass market purchasing dollar for popular culture is ably served in this country by Armageddon, Au Contraire seeks to promote grassroots, non-commercial fandom - filking, fan-fiction, cosplay, handicrafts, fanvids and everything else that's not about making a profit.
But our vision needs YOU, the average fan, to get involved to make it real. Does that prospect excite you? Then we invited you to chat with other kiwi SF fans on the forums, or register for Au Contraire 2013, the 34th National Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention.
