Competitions
To keep you busy in the leadup to the convention, we're running a number of competitions. We intend to offer some very nice prizes indeed, to make entering worth the trouble.
The theme for the convention is "the future is a foreign country". This is a corollary of the well-known L P Hartley quote "the past is a foreign country: they do things differently there". Where practical, competition entries should relate to the theme in some way, but it can be interpreted very broadly, and "the future" is of course entirely relative.
You do need to be a member of the convention to enter our competitions. Supporting memberships are available for those who can't attend in person.
Writing
Drabble and filk competitions (the deadline for our short story competition has passed)
Art
We're planning to hold an art show at the convention. All mediums are welcome; paints, pencil, CGI, physical sculptures or models, etc. Categories for prizes will be determined based on the makeup of entries. More details to follow.
Cosplay
See The Masquerade.
Cosplay is also very welcome throughout the convention, and spot prizes will be awarded for hall costumes [Costumes worn outside the Masquerade, anywhere and any time.]. The eligibility rules for hall costumes are a lot less strict; pretty much anything goes. However, more care needs to be taken with regards to comfort, public decency, and avoiding any danger to other attendees.
Video
Entrants in the video competition will be screened during the convention. There are two categories - Re-edits and Original Short Films. Re-edits include music videos and other rearrangements of existing video footage, and must be no more than 5 minutes in duration. Original films (of no more than 30 minutes) must be shot (or animated) from scratch by the entrants; this category will have a more substantial prize, since a lot more work is involved. More details to follow.
